Anesthesiologist Job Description

Anesthesiologists are the doctors that give people anesthesia when they have surgery. They make sure it is safe and they monitor a patient's life functions.

Anesthesia is given to the patient in order to make them go into a deep sleep so they don't feel pain and can relax their muscles for the operation. An anesthesiologist must have gone through medical school as well as two more years of training after that in order to be qualified. In high school, one must also have the following classes in order to be accepted into medical school: biology, physics, math and chemistry.

Anesthesiologists must not only complete all of the proper schooling but also do a residency for two more years after they graduate from medical school. During their time at a residency many different kinds of anesthesia will be learned. When done with the residency, one must take a special test that will show them how much anesthesia they have learned. The people who pass this test can be called anesthesiologists. They must also complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every year so that they are always up to date with the newest anesthesia preparations and treatments.

Anesthesiologists are very important to the surgeons in the operating room. They understand the body very well and they must be able to think quickly. They are also important for patients because they help keep them safe while having surgery done on their bodies.

There are three different types of anesthesiologists: CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist), CCRN (Certified Clinical Nurse Anesthetist), and RCRNA (Registered Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist). All of these people are working towards the same goal, but they do not all have the same experiences.

As a CRNA one works in hospitals with operating rooms performing anesthesia on patients before, during, and after a surgery. They could also work in the emergency room or doctor's office giving medications to patients that may cause sedation and pain relief. A CCRN is trained in a hospital as well as outpatient facilities giving anesthesia before, during, and after the operation. RCRNAs also work in hospitals but usually are not responsible for their own patient. They make sure the patients are ok and gain experiences by assisting other anesthesiologists.
