A psychiatrist is a physician who provides care and counseling to people suffering from mental illnesses. A psychiatrist's duty mainly includes: diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychiatric disorders, evaluation, treatment or referral of individuals with existing mental disorders; consults with family members about patient's condition and follow up the medications as needed.

 

Psychiatrist can work in a wide variety of environments. Some psychiatrists practice as consultants to businesses or industry. Others provide psychiatric care for the mentally ill in hospitals, prisons, or other institutions. Still others offer care in private office practices that often include a variety of professionals such as social workers and psychologists.

 

Some psychiatrists plan, conduct, and supervise mental health services provided to patients in hospitals and other medical facilities. They also helps patients overcome their behavioral or emotional problems by using a variety of methods such as psychotherapy or counseling.

 

Psychiatrist can work alone, in groups practice, hospital or clinical setting, private practices and more.

 

Psychiatrists often provide mental health and wellness services to patients in clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics, residential treatment facilities or psychiatric ward of a general hospital. Some psychiatrists work full-time and others only part-time depending on their specialty and the amount of patients they need to see.
